Cooperative diversity and multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) maximal ratio combining(MRC) technique can be used to combat the impact of multipath fading on wireless communication systems and extend the radio coverage. We investigate the error rate performance of decode-and-forward(DF) relay cooperative communication systems with MIMO MRC and imperfect channel state information(CSI) in Rayleigh fading channel.By using the moment generating function-based analysis approach,we derive the exact closed-form expressions of average symbol error rate for M-ary phase shift keying and general rectangular M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation in DF cooperative systems.Simulation results verify the accuracy of theoretical analysis.Numerical and simulation results show that channel estimation errors seriously deteriorate the error rate performance of cooperative communication systems with MIMO MRC and that the performance of cooperative communication systems with MIMO MRC can be significantly improved with the increase of antenna number of the source, the relay, and the destination.
