Fairness in Bandwidth for TCP Flows in a Differentiated Services Network

Differentiated Services is a solution scheme for QoS in IP networks. In a differentiated services network, to delivery fairness share of bandwidth to TCP flows is still an issue to be addressed when multiple TCP flows with different flow characterizations respectively coexist within a bandwidth assurance service traffic aggregate. We studied the impact on fairness of different packet length based on the Network Simulator (NS2) and proposed a method to support fairness bandwidth allocation among TCP flows with an implementation of Random Early Detection (RED). Based on network simulation, performance analysis of the method is given.
