Improved method of qualitative shape representation for SameSide distinction of concavities

On the basis of Cohn method of qualitative shape representation,two kinds of problem in distinguishing SameSide relation of two concavities are analyzed.Then an improved predicate SameSide* is presented.Based on SameSide*,a concavity transforming-based method for SameSide distinction(i.e.CTS method) is proposed.The algorithm described in ADL is also given.Case studies are conducted to compare the proposed method with the Cohn method.It is shown that the problems of the Cohn approach are overcome by the CTS method,thus distinguishing conclusions are derived which accord with human intuitive cognition.Therefore,the reasonableness and the correctness of qualitative shape representation are improved to some extent.
