An Approach to Aerodynamic Shape Optimization Using Surrogate Models

This paper discusses an approach of aerodynamic shape optimization combining CAD and CFD with surrogate models.It introduces the process how to obtain the surrogate models for aerodynamic analysis.The process includes the selection of variables and ranges of their values,design of experiments,parametric CAD modeling of aircraft configuration,aerodynamic simulations using CFD software,distilling aerodynamic characteristics from CFD simulation output,and construction of surrogate models.A wing aerodynamic shape optimization is used to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the approach.
