Application of Finite Element Method to the Grounding Resistance Measurement with Short Leads

Jianmin Wu · Gaoya dianqi · 2010

FEM (Finite Element Method)is applied to the study of the method to the measurement of grounding resistance with short leads. ANSYS,the general FEM software,is used. The earth-surface potential distributions with/without the current electrode are calculated with steady electric field analysis module of ANSYS. According to the compensation theory, the position of test potential electrode to measure the grounding resistance is chosen. Based the analysis result, the grounding resistance of a real grounding grid is tested. The test result is very close to the calculated result, which shows the validity of application of FEM to the grounding resistance measurement. In addition, the situation of grounding grid buried in multi-layer soil is studied, which shows the flexibility and practicability of the FEM.
