Pla Genneral · 2006
Objective To explore the application of Mandarin HNIT test on Chinese dialect speakers with normal hearing, and to compare two language segmentations i.e. character and word used in HINT scoring. Methods 10 Chinese dialect speakers and 10 Mandarin speakers were tested using Mandarin HINT implemented by BLIMP. According to different scoring segmentations and different response criteria, 6 sets of parameters were used including: rule1/character, rule1/word, rule2/character, rule2/word, and rule3/character and rule3/word. Compared were RTSs resulted from Mandarin HINT between dialect group and mandarin group were compared using wilcoxon ranksum test. Results Significant differences were found between dialect group and mandarin group under all 6 sets of parameters including rule1/character (P0.001), rule1/word (P0.001), and rule2/character (P=0.006),rule2/word (P=0.001),rule3/character (P=0.017) and rule3/word (P=0.006). Generally, dialect speakers performed worse than mandarin speakers. No significant differences were found between character segmentation and word segmentation. Conclusion When used to dialect speakers, mandarin speech audiometry materials should be adjusted in scoring rules and test procedures according to characteristics of different dialectal tone.
