A algorithm of fast intra-prediction mode selection based on adjacent blocks prediction for H.264 was proposed in the paper, due to the two shortages of the Pan 's algorithm as follows: too many intra-prediction modes to be selected and the prediction of intra-prediction modes just using the inside information of the block. The new algorithm proposed not only predict the intra modes from the inside information of the block, but also from the outside information of the block, which can get the much less modes to be selected. The experiment results show that, compared with the Pan's algorithm, the new algorithm can decrease the encoding time notability, with good quality of video image.
