Rules-driven enterprises interoperability ontology construction

Wu Yue · Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems · 2008

To solve the problems of information sharing and reuse in enterprises interoperation,an approach to construct ontology based on Object-Relational Databases(ORDB) and a set of rules were proposed.Ontology construction model of interoperation was presented firstly. Then, four types of rules in ontology construction were formalized including class, properties, property characteristics and property restrictions. Also the corresponding formal definition and Web Ontology Language(OWL) description of constructing rules was also given.Experimental results showed that the approach was feasible and effective. It reduced about 18% construction time compared to the ontology construction from relational databases. Also this approach was applied in enterprises interoperation and was proved to be practical.
