Effective Testing of Commercial Off-the-shelf(Cots) Software Components Using Reflection

Dafang Zhang · Computing Technology and Automation · 2006

The use of Commercial Off-The-Shelf(COTS) software components in building large software systems has become widespread of recent due to their effect in reducing over all development costs and reducing project time schedule. However, despite these advantages, there is need to sufficiently test COTS in order to ensure the validity of its functionality as claimed by the developer/vendor and to verify general component quality. It is also important to ensure that the component does not perform malicious tasks such as Trojans or spyware when integrated into the final system of which it will make part. This paper proposes a method for testing COTS,which will result in a more comprehensive testing of the components.
