A multi-candidate electronic voting scheme with secret tallying

Ye Zhen · Journal of Hefei University of Technology · 2008

Electronic voting is one of the important research fields in cryptography, and it has aroused wide concern from researchers. The electronic voting scheme can be categorized by their approaches into three types: schemes using Mixnet, schemes using homomorphic encryption, and schemes using blind signatures. The scheme based on homomorphic encryption is the most popular one because of its high efficiency and flexibility.Meanwhile multi-candidate electronic voting is very useful in numerous practical situations, but most of the previous schemes discuss the Boolean vote in which voters can only cast yes/no vote. This paper designs a new multi-candidate electronic voting scheme based on homomorphic encryption. This scheme can also achieve many new security properties, especially secret tallying besides those basic security requirements.
