Application of Risk Analysis in Hydrological Safety Assessment of Dam

The conventional methods for hydrological safety assessment of dam were reviewed. A new method based on risk analysis and society acceptable risk level was discussed in detail. Risk estimation formulas that incorporated dam damage probability and damage loss were proposed. The risk analysis method and the proposed formulas were applied to calculate hydrological risk for given dam, i.e. the degree of the dam hydrological safety. The difficulties in risk assessment approaches were also discussed briefly.
