Cross-layer design-based energy load balancing in wireless ad hoc networks

Current energy balancing algorithms for mobile wireless ad-hoc networks do not consider the state of the wireless channel.An energy balancing algorithm based on cross-layer design was developed which analyzes the physical channel busy ratio and the residual energy of nodes.The algorithm uses hops as route metrics and improves routing policies based on the ad hoc on demand distance vector protocol.Simulation results show that the algorithm gives about 10% improvement on total delivered packets and delivery ratio,with controlled packet delay.
