AC exciter was an innovation in the end of 20th century.The technical measures such as frequency moduktion, amplitude moduktion and phase moduktion for AC exciter can realize the function of the operation of constant frequency with varible speed, improving system reactive power regulation, raising system stbility,and the function that meets toad fast change. Since the restriction of technotogyand cost in production,it is not large for the utilization seope.It has practical meaning only its rotor current frequency f1 in - 10 Hz f1+10 Hz,such as used in wind power generation and small hydropower.The paper analyzed the problems of research and development.
