A fast intra-prediction algorithm based on edge detection direction correlation for H.264/AVC is proposed according to the correlation characteristic of picture′s macro-block on the edge. The algorithm will choose more correlation direction modes to reduce the candidate modes in intra-prediction.Therefore,the complexity of algorithm and coding time are reduced,Experimental results show that the proposed method will be 67% faster than that of H.264/AVC,and 6%～10% faster than F.Pan′s algorithm at code time, with 5 times at PSNR and 1.5% at bitrate.
