Distributed Data Management: Challenges and Solution on Distributed Storage

Gagan Jain · IJCER · 2016

The upcoming years are expected to witness a significant impact of The Distributed Database technology. With the emergence of different commercial products, it is expected that Distributed Database management systems (DDMS) will replace the current centralised ones within the next decade. Initially, the implementation was hindered due to different challenges perused in past researches. Many of these difficulties include high system costs, unreliable technologies, difficult network topologies, and insecurity among users. However, with development in technologies, the system costs are gradually decreasing. The users are better informed with the benefits involved in distributed database systems. Therefore, this paper is tailored towards mentioning the various challenges encountered in distributed database transactions and storage and also proffered likely solutions. Few of the mentioned challenges are: problems of distribution of resources, search and updating of resources. We also present new research issues, such as the efficient ways for data storage to minimise data loss, that arise with the introduction of new technology and the subsequent relaxation of some of the assumptions present with the current systems. The paper suggests an efficient method of segmentation and fragmentation to minimise the data loss during system failures.
