VoIP QoS over 3G & Beyond Radio Access Technologies

Oluwadamilola I. Adu, Charles Uzoanya Ndujiuba · Covenant University Repository (Covenant University) · 2013

Wireless access networks are evolving towards an all-IP network. This will make the implementation of VoIP services on this standard of telecommunications access network easier and even more seamless as both of their operations are entirely packet switched. VoIP still has penetration problems as a result of insufficient RF capacity, managing the performance of the radio channel and most importantly maintaining a QoS benchmark that will guarantee a very acceptable user experience. With the characteristics of B3G (Beyond 3G) technologies such as high throughput, low latencies and QoS support, both fixed and mobile network operators can generate even more revenue from voice services using VoIP while users enjoy economic and mobility benefits. This presents advantages such as: constant service availability, mobility, a globally unified user identity number and global interoperability.
