Modeling domain knowledge using inference ontologies: an application to business rules management

A constant interest is worn on ontology-based models in industrial applications, notably to represent domain knowledge. The capabilities of ontologies indeed lead to new modeling paradigms like non-canonic data, reasoning, etc, which answer to today's industrial issues. However, the specificities of ontology-based approaches should be mastered during the modeling process. This study describes the points of interest that should be considered, and illustrates those points while describing the modeling choices made to build a domain ontology (OWL) that supports business rules management, in an industrial use case. It proposes research and industrial prospects as well, like the implementation of the punning function of OWL2.
