Anti-Spyware Enforcement: Recent Developments

Spyware plagues computer users by installing itself on computers without user consent, and, among other things, changing browser settings and home pages, tracking users' online activities, causing unwanted pop-up ads, and making uninstallation extremely difficult, if not impossible.This note briefly reviews recent legislative efforts to combat spyware at both the state and federal levels, and summarizes the Federal Trade Commission's recent enforcement activities in this area.
