Application of Data Mining in the Intelligent Traffic Management System

Data mining is an important application in the advanced stage of the ITMS (Intelligent Traffic Management System). It also serves as the important technology and foundation for data analysis and the decision support system. Data mining has a wide range of applications in ITMS in the fields of traffic accident analysis, traffic offence analysis, short term traffic forecast, traffic signal control and traffic guidance etc. This paper presents the traffic data mining architecture model and introduces the main application themes and common algorithms concerning traffic data mining. Traffic forecast based on Data Mining techniques has important value in ITMS, the detail of which is discussed by this paper.
