Properties of Windows Extracted from Fractional Delay Filters Optimal in Chebyshev Sense

Marek Blok · 2010

One of the most numerically efficient digital filter design methods is the window method. However, beside simplicity that approach is characterized by poor performance of the designed filter, mainly because of the problems with adequate window selection. Therefore in the applications requiring constant filter redesign during runtime, like in case of variable delay filter, designer often needs to sacrifice filter's performance. The solution to this problem is the use of the window extracted from the optimal filter designed beforehand with the use of some sophisticated algorithm. Such a reference window can be later used to design the whole family of the filters with different delays. Whether extracted window approach is efficient or not depends on the properties of the windows extracted the optimal filters. In this paper windows extracted from fractional delay filters optimal in the Chebyshev sense are investigated.
