The energy content in a network mainly depends on the number of clusters and cluster heads. Hence the clustering procedure is very significant towards efficient network resource utilization. The transmission range and layout of the nodes play a very important role in any clustering methodologies. In this paper, a new clustering approach involving transmission range, location of a node in the network and neighborhood awareness of each nodeis introduced. This proposed method identifies potential cluster heads and performs clustering using the connectivity information of the node. It is compared with other existing approaches and analyzed to attain superiority over them.
