Hervé Gallaire: making research deliver

Kenneth Owen · ITNOW · 1990

Abstract Hervé Gallaire was recruited by Bull from CGE in France to be the first Director of the European Computer Industry Research Centre (ECRC), set up by Bull, Siemens and ICL in Munich at the beginning of 1984. Outside the three companies, little information has emerged about the work of the centre since then, though parallels have been drawn with the more celebrated ICOT, the focus of research of the Japanese Fifth-Generation Programme. In this interview with Kenneth Owen, M Gallaire discusses the aims of the Centre, compares and contrasts it with ICOT, and reveals progress to date.
