Multimedia Information Retrieval Literature Review

This survey paper highlights some of the recent, influential work in multimedia (MIR). MIR is a branch area of multimedia (MM). The young and fast-growing area has received strong industrial and academic support in the United States and around the world (see Section 7 for a list of major conferences and journals of the community). The term information retrieval may be misleading to those with different computer science or technology backgrounds. As shown in our discussion later, it indeed includes topics from user interaction, data analytics, machine learning, feature extraction, visualization, and more.
