Digital hardware design using VHDL and ALDEC active HDL
John Robinson · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2012
This tutorial is designed for computer scientists and educators who teach or have interest in digital hardware design. The workshop will introduce the Very High Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language (VHDL), the use of VHDL to design digital hardware, and industry standard software packages (Active HDL, Xilinx Webpack) to simulate and implement digital components and systems on Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA). Specific topics include an overview of digital design using VHDL, an overview and tutorial on using Active HDL and Xilinx Webpack, and translation of hardware specifications into circuits utilizing combinational and sequential design techniques. A series of examples will be presented to illustrate the concepts covered. Attendees should have some programming experience using a high level language such as C++ or Java.
