Multipath Routing for Mobile Wireless Sensor Networks Through Area Partition

In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), Multipath Routing (MPR) schemes have better performance in terms of reliability and load balance than traditional single-path routing schemes. Mobile Wireless Sensor Networks (MWSNs) have drawn increasing attention in recent years. However, proposed MPR schemes are mostly focused on static wireless sensor networks. Node mobility and path failure are two major challenges in the research of routing schemes for MWSNs. In this paper, we present a geographic multipath routing protocol for MWSNs based on area partition. We first partition the deployed area of the network into a number of non-overlapping meta-area chains, and then find a path from the source node to the destination node in each chain separately. We also introduce a dynamic next hop selection method which has two modes: distance-first mode and direction-first mode. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme has good performance in terms of path failure ratio, packet delivery ratio, average end-to-end delay and network lifetime.
