The mechanisms for excitation of auto oscillations in magnetrons with secondary-emission cathode with no use of an auxiliary thermionic cathode have been theoretically analyzed. The process of setting up self-excited oscillations with an external microwave (MW) signal and using a modulated anode voltage pulse have been examined. The conditions under which the above mechanisms for exciting self-excited oscillations are defined. The results of the comparison between the numerical simulation and the experimental data obtained for mm-wave magnetrons are presented.
