Sample Replication on the Coulter Model S-Plus

Cheryl L. Haiflich, P. Joanne Cornbleet · Laboratory Medicine · 1980

The effect of accumulation of debris on the apertures of the Coulter Model S-Plus was studied by replicating samples at intervals during processing of the daily workload. Only small deviations with increasing sample load were observed for all parameters with the exception of the white cell count. The white cell count showed a more significant decrease with sample throughput, which was proportional to the value of the count. The reagent system employed with the instrument markedly affected the percentage of the white cell count falloff. Serial replication of patient samples throughout processing of the workload is recommended when evaluating electronic counting instruments or the quality of the reagents used with these instruments.
