A Framework for Image Processing

Chris Pruett · 2004

Image processing is the application of transform operations to source images. Most image processing algorithms share several procedural elements. These shared elements suggest that a software framework can be developed to encapsulate them. Such a framework is beneficial when developing applications that use image processing algorithms by easily facilitating code reuse. Systematic generalization is a structured design methodology intended to simplify the process of designing a software framework for a family of applications. In systematic generalization, elements common to several algorithms in the family are identified and separated from the elements that are application specific. The interactions between the elements are studied and design patterns are applied. Design patterns are standardized solutions to commonly recurring problems and are intended to encapsulate object interactions in such a way as to make the design easy to modify. This project presents a design and implementation in C++ of an image processing framework using systematic generalization and design patterns. ii
