A Security Routing Protocol Based on Public Key Matrix for Wireless Sensor Networks

Jie Huang · Journal of Convergence Information Technology · 2012

Owing to the wireless sensor networks are often deployed in hostile fields or no man’s land, the network nodes and communication links are not guarded properly. The security protocols must be considered in the WSNs. Although many researchers focus on symmetric cryptographic algorithms, these algorithms cannot thoroughly solve authentication and resilience issues against physical capture of nodes. And the authentication server is unsuitable for the WSNs due to the resource constraint of the nodes. In this paper, we propose a security protocol based on public key matrix. All public keys in public key matrix are generated by a public key seed and the corresponding private key is secret information for third party. In this protocol, each node can indirectly authenticate the identity of other nodes without digital signature. Compared with other existing protocols, our protocol can not only provide security enough for the WSNs, but also its communication overhead is the lowest throughout the networks lifetime. At last, the experiment shows that this protocol is suitable for large scale wireless sensor networks.
