From Notebooks #2
Daniel Goode · Leonardo Music Journal · 1991
Manuscript solicited by Larry Polansky. #2 is a continuing collection gathered from music notebooks in which I have been writing from 1968 to the present. Actually, I have notebooks that date back to the age of eight first, music-lesson books and, later, entries of my early and brief composiiions. I started my book, From Notebooks: 1968-, with spiral notebook #28, ending with entries from the year 1982 (published by Frog Peak Music, Hanover, New Hampshire). The collection of notebooks in this article beginswith entrieswritten in 1982 and endswith those written in 1990. Notebooks is about my creative work, all facets of it, including the unconscious, represented by dreams. These facets appear mosaic-like, in roughly chronological order (Figs 1 and 2). In this article, the different symbols or ikons heading each paragraph indicate a break from one facet or category of thought to another. The walls between categories are not 'air-tight', but some central concern marks each.
