Ensemble computing and the future of personal systems

The technology space which includes ubiquitous computing, information appliances, pervasive- and context-aware systems and wearable computing is the subject of intense interest amongst the research community. This paper examines some of the principles implicit in this space and introduce the idea of `ensemble computing' to describe technologies which extend this space and will impact the space of wearable computers.
