Time accuracy study for multiple moving grids

Jyh-Horng Kuan, F. Carroll Dougherty · 1989

An attempt is made to isolate the error in time accuracy across grid interfaces between multi- ple grids. The chimera grid scheme, a multiple over- set mesh technique, has been coupled with an im- plicit Euler flow solver (ARC3D). When the overset mesh is moved with respect to a stationary global mesh, there is a small error in time on the time- lagged boundary. Several methods are developed to try to reduce the time lag across the moving bound- ary. These methods were tested on both I-D and 3-D configurations. A secondary study was included to see if the newly-developed methods could also be used to maintain time accuracy while reducing the overall CPU requirements of the codes.
