CGNS test suites for CFD software components
Marc Poinot · 54th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting · 2016
The multi-physics simulation workflows involve many software components, the legacy use of monolithic fluid solvers is replaced by complex assemblies where, most of the time, the CFD solver is the main one. These software parts are released by different teams and the resulting assembly may be a single application built for an ad-hoc purpose. The Onera elsA CFD solver and its pre/post companion softwares are used in such an environment we want to test before its actual submission to an expensive HPC host. As our interoperability design guideline sets the CGNS/Python standard as the main input/output mean, we propose here a test process, based on the check of each component interface by means of CGNS/Python trees generated through a mutation testing framework. We show how this helps to achieve a large functional coverage of the software components and thus how this leads to a greater confidence in simulation assembly.
