We evaluate the impact and implications that the provision of on-board Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation by EuroSkyway, a new generation satellite with on-board switching, has onto the support of the TCP protocols when the “TCP spoofing”, a typical performance-enhancing proxies (PEPs), is adopted. We then describe an interleaved flow control between adjacent (Satellite/terrestrial) portions of the end-to-end TCP connection to adapt the allocation of satellite traffic resource to the actual overall TCP throughput and evaluate the advantages in terms of satellite resource savings. The workload onto the satellite system for the adoption of dynamic bandwidth allocation to support the TCP protocol is also evaluated.
