In this paper we present a comprehensive review of text recognition techniques.Character recognition has gained lot of attention in the field of pattern recognition due to its application in various fields.In coming days, character recognition system might serve as a key factor to create paperless environment by digitizing and processing existing paper documents.We believe that the review should prove helpful in identifying and solving problems that are being faced in developing a practical system.
