Change impact analysis (CIA) plays an important role in software maintenance and evolution. And it can be used as a reference in solving bug location problem. But the present research works of CIA mainly focus on the implementation technique. In this paper, we analyze the transmitting media of change impact software component network (SCDN), and provide some propagating rules based on the degree distribution analysis. These rules are helpful in understanding the propagating phenomena of change impact and predicting the scale of impact. Then present a Propagation Model of Software Change Impact based on the classic SIR epidemic model. The analysis of data from some open source of JAVA software and libraries verify the rationality of the model and the soundness of the rules.
