Constrained prismatic grid generation for NURBS bounded triangulations

John Whitmire, Timothy Dollar · 36th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit · 1998

A marching technique for generating prismatic grids for internal and external flow calculations is discussed. The marching technique controls the spacings in the marching direction by minimizing the grid surface area with respect to a target volume size. For base surface meshes with free bounding edges, the growth of the prismatic walls are constrained to NURBS surfaces. The point generation for the bounded walls are computed in the parametric space of the surface with physical constraints imposed to ensure cell volume continuity throughout the domain. The capability of the method is demonstrated by generating prismatic grids for internal and external configurations. I Introduction
