A quality definition for open source software
B.B. Jensen · 2004
This paper proposes a quality definition for open source software. Traditional software quality definitions do not apply well to open source software, as most rely on elements not found in open source development A suitable quality definition is devised, based on a study of traditional views on quality, and an examination of the organisation of open source projects. The paper also provides a model for prioritising quality factors, it suggests four primary factors, to be considered by all open source developers. This model is based on McCall 's software quality model. The quality definition and the quality factor model have both been formulated in a way that is non-intrusive to the current open source development methods.
