Load-balanced architectures appear to be a promising way to scale Internet to very high capacities because of the O(1) scheduling complexity. However, traditional load-balanced architectures are based on crossbar switch of implementation complexity N2, where N is the port number. This high implementation complexity and the centralized structure of crossbar render these traditional architectures not scalable. In this paper we consider constructing load- balanced architecture based on direct interconnection network to solve these two problems while maintaining the O(1) scheduling complexity. We propose the scalable direct interconnection network load-balanced (SDINL). Architecture for extra-high capacity routers. Then we consider the impact of topology properties and different switch fabrics on the linecard on the corresponding load- balanced architectures. Finally, we provide a paradigm named the PLB architecture based on the novel unidirectional direct interconnection topology we previously proposed, P2i.
