A Taxonomy of Intelligent Systems

Elad H. Kivelevitch · 2015

Intelligent Systems (IS) have evolved in recent decades to allow various important capabilities, including automation, autonomy, health monitoring, etc. Yet, despite these significant breakthroughs we lack a way of assessing various IS and understanding whether new ones represent any advancement relative to older IS. The purpose of this document is to define a possible taxonomy of IS and to propose ways to measure the various properties that an IS possesses. It is envisioned that this taxonomy will help scientists and engineers that develop IS and their customers to better define their requirements from IS and to evaluate the outcome of IS.
