Optical sensor for measuring atmospheric moisture

A light-emitting diode (LED) based moisture-detection instrument is presented which measures the water vapor absorption in the near-IR region of the spectra. The performance obtainable via LED sensor promises to encompass the desired high accuracy over the entire water-vapor concentration range, an obviation of calibration, low power consumption, and indefinite operation, all with high ruggedness and portability and low cost. Test results are presented. (AIAA).
