An Urban Traffic Guidance System Based on Web GIS

In this paper the authors present a web GIS-based urban traffic guidance system. First, a three-layer architecture of the traffic guidance system is introduced, including the client layer, server layer, and database layer. The function of each layer is analyzed. Next, the authors analyze the role web GIS played in the traffic guidance system and discuss the implementation method. Then the main functions and their relationship are analyzed. The system was implemented based on ASP.NET and ArcIMS and has been in use in a major city of China, which proves the system is effective in practice.
