Synthesis of application-specific real-time computing systems

Raed Alqadi · 1995

Due to the stringent timing constraints, designing a computer control system for a real-time application is a challenging problem. This dissertation alleviates this problem by developing a systematic approach for designing application-specific real-time computer systems. This approach has been implemented as an integrated set of tools for computeraided synthesis of these computer systems. The inputs to the tools consist of a high level description of a real-time application and a design library of building components. The output of the tools includes a distributed system consisting of processors and resources or nodes of processors and resources, a mapping of the tasks to the processors and resources, and a schedule for the tasks and messages in the application. The developed computer-aided synthesis tools include a Lower Bound Analyzer, a Module Selector, a Network Synthesizer, a Task Scheduler and a Message Scheduler. The Lower Bound Analyzer evaluates a lower bound on the number of ...
