Deterministic Data Access and Manipulation in Simulators with a VxWorks Target
William Davidson, Gabriel Tupa · 2006
During the efforts for the Space Shuttle Cockpit Avionics Upgrade (CAU), a method to gather and modify data in a VxWorks target was realized. This paper describes the methods used to analyze the debug information of compiled C and C++ code and then use that information to determine the addresses in the Command and Data Processor (CDP) (this was the name given to the new computers being added under CAU) memory of functions and data. Then this paper describes the details behind the techniques used to gather and modify data in the CDP in a deterministic fashion while the CDP was executing as part of an integrated simulation with the legacy Space Shuttle General Purpose Computers (GPCs).
