Galileo is Europe’s satellite navigation system, currently under development. Since the start of ESA’s Phase B Definition activities, SciSys has supported EADS Astrium Ltd. on satellite control aspects of the Galileo Ground Control Segment (GCS). This paper summarises the Galileo Industries consortium baseline design for the satellite control functions of the GCS and considers some of the key technical challenges ahead. As Galileo Phase C0 design activities are currently in progress, the design contained in this paper represents a snapshot of the status at the time of writing, and is subject to change.
