Application of multi-region fuzzy logic to some model flow control problems

Some model flow problems described by the Burgers equation and the wave equation are controlled using a simple PD-type fuzzy logic controller. The operating range of the controller is divided into two regions: large error region and the small error or stability region. For both the regions, the same fuzzy controller is employed except for different values of the input scaling factors. The change in scaling factors for the errors is determined by another fuzzy inference called the fuzzy self-tuner (FST). Control of flows modeled by the Burgers equation and the wave equation demonstrates the excellent handling capability of the multi-region fuzzy logic control system.
