Open Source Software for Monte Carlo/DSMC Applications

We present a survey of open source and freeware software for Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) methods, including recent progress in the area of large scale pseudo-random number generators. The availability and features of various systems are highlighted, with consideration of High Performance Computing (HPC) support using multicore, distributed and many-core/accelerator computing. Some of the capabilities of a local parallel DSMC system are illustrated, in the framework of its port to hybrid parallel platforms. Suitable practices for infrastructure development are reviewed.
