Model based system health management

A method for implementing a model-based fault isolation and management system for application to complex aerospace systems is described. This technology is an outgrowth of technology that has been successfully applied in the Airline industry for in-flight diagnostics and line maintenance. Application of this approach to large space launch systems (vehicle, support equipment, and ground control network) has been studied along with application of the approach to more discrete systems such as the space shuttle main engine. This paper describes the technique for capturing and managing system design data and using this captured data in a near-real time fault isolation and management system.
