We applied analytic signal method to spoken digit recognition, and investigated some merits of this method for isolated word recognition. As recognition parameters, we have chosen combinations of envelope a(t)and instantaneous frequency fi(t), which are obtained from band limited speech signals. Several words whose pronunciations are similar such as “i-chi” and “shi-chi” have been recognized properly using above parameters. These spoken words were often difficult to recognize when only an envelope was chosen as a recognition parameter. In this paper, it is proved that the recognition parameters obtained from the phase of speech signals can be utilized for word recognition, as the parameters have the advantage of discrimination of consonants.
