In this paper a new technique of Electrocardiogram (ECG) image compression using Modified Set Partitioning In Hierarchical Tree (M-SPIHT) algorithm have been presented. Image quality is compared objectively using mean square error (MSE) and peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) along with visual appearance. As a result, an efficient high speed ECG image compression at low bit-rate is achieved. The simulation results have shown that this new method is suitable for mobile communication due to achieving good visual quality of reconstructed ECG image at low bit rate compare to original SPIHT and other compression system.
